Most state medical practice acts were written before AI existed. They often require synchronous physician-patient relationship, a physician exam before prescribing, and a licensed physician as the source of any prescription. Doctronic's AI-driven patient communication digital health model threads this needle but lacked explicit statutory or regulatory authorization in the vast majority of states.

This led to concerns from regulators and potential investors alike about the pathway for Doctronic to scale to its full potential.

Tusk has worked with Doctronic to build a state-by-state and federal expansion strategy, starting with Utah, where we helped secure a first-of-its-kind regulatory waiver with the state's Office of Artificial Intelligence Policy.

That agreement launched the nation's first state-authorized AI prescription renewal program in January 2026, backed by a physician-review structure that produced 97% AI-physician concordance and zero adverse events.

We used that Utah proof point as the template for market expansion campaigns in states like Texas, Ohio, Arizona, Wyoming, West Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee, coordinating state lobbyists in each market while running a parallel FDA strategy.

At the same time, we provided clarity to regulators and potential investors on Doctronic’s model and the ways in which the model could expand within the regulatory parameters of various target states.

Since Tusk began working with Doctronic as both investor and regulatory advisor, the company launched the first state-authorized AI prescription renewal program in the country, built an active legislative and regulatory pipeline across eight additional states, and closed both a $25M Series A (September 2025) and a $40M Series B (February 2026), co-led by Abstract Ventures and Lightspeed.
